MAN B&W L27/38 MK2 Propulsion Engine

The MAN B&W L27/38 Mk2 is the upgraded version of the well-established L27/38 medium-speed, four-stroke marine propulsion engine. Offered in inline (L) configuration, the Mk2 variant introduces improved power density, enhanced efficiency, and reduced emissions through design optimization and modern control systems. It delivers approximately 500 kW per cylinder, with total power output ranging from 2,000 kW (4L) to 5,000 kW (10L). The engine produces high torque values—estimated between 28,000 Nm and 70,000 Nm—supporting stable and responsive propulsion for vessels operating under variable and continuous loads. The L27/38 Mk2 is designed to run on marine diesel oil (MDO) and heavy fuel oil (HFO), with increased fuel efficiency over its predecessor. It complies with IMO Tier II emissions as standard and can be equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to meet IMO Tier III regulations for operation within Emission Control Areas (ECAs). Key enhancements include reduced specific fuel oil consumption (SFOC), lower maintenance requirements, and improved electronic engine management.

MAN B&W S.E.M.T. Pielstick  PC2.6B Propulsion Engine

The MAN S.E.M.T. Pielstick PC2.6B is a robust, medium-speed, four-stroke marine propulsion engine designed for large naval and commercial vessels that require high power output and long-term operational durability. Manufactured under the MAN S.E.M.T. Pielstick brand, the PC2.6B is offered in V-type configurations, with power outputs ranging from 7,200 kW to over 13,000 kW, depending on the number of cylinders (typically 12V to 20V configurations). It delivers extremely high torque estimated between 400,000 Nm and 700,000 Nm making it well-suited for driving large propellers in vessels operating under heavy-duty and continuous load conditions. This engine operates on marine diesel oil (MDO) and heavy fuel oil (HFO) and is known for its mechanical reliability in extended operations. It meets IMO Tier I or Tier II emission standards, depending on configuration and year of manufacture. However, due to its older design architecture, compliance with IMO Tier III would require the addition of after-treatment systems such as Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) units.
